TAOS HOUSING AND LAND TRUST

Our vision
Our vision is to provide Taos’s teachers, first responders, health care providers, elders, small business owners, and service industry workers in the Taos community with the opportunity to build and own their homes.
Through intentional infrastructure development and non-profit land ownership, we will help address the huge disparity between the average income of Taos County workers and the median price of a Taos home.
What we are building
We are creating a mixed-used development community on 57.7 acres west of the town of Taos that will include:

Community Spaces
The plan includes space for County fire and EMS services, community gardens, healthcare facilities, children’s park, hiking, biking and horse riding trails, as well as a dog park.

Commercial Opportunity
A portion of the development will be will be dedicated to commercial purposes including a café, grocery store, laundry, workspace for digital nomads, and shops for cottage industries.

Affordabe Housing
The soul of the project is to support a community of permanently sustainable and affordable homes, both single-family houses and multi-unit housing / studios.
Community Trust
What is a community land trust?
A community land trust is a non-profit organization that provides lasting community assets through shared equity homeownership opportunities for families and communities. In short, the individual owns the house while the trust owns the land making that house more affordable.

Sustainability
What do we mean by sustainable development?
Sustainable housing is a long-term investment in our community and environment. Sustainable buildings will be all-electric. Efficiency and intelligent design help control building costs and substantially reduce operating costs thereby offsetting infrastructure investments.
